For what does a man profit,
if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
That is something we should not forget.
What is the life of a man?
A shadow that has gone by; a dream that has passed.
What remains? That is what we should look at.
What will remain in our hand; what will stay by us?
what we will take with us into the Kingdom of God?
All the rest, unfortunately, is the vanity of vanities.
That which remains is that for which one struggles in Christ;
that which heals one’s very being; that for which one repents;
that for which one will stand before God and seek God’s mercy.
There, within that place of repentance, we will truly see our own self.
There, we will smash the idol of our own self.
and stand before God with a contrite heart.
There, we will pray; we will supplicate God to be merciful;
to have mercy on us; to come with us;
to raise up our dead souls, so that we will be able to meet Him.
That, my brothers and sisters, is what gives meaning to our lives.
It is why the Church trains us like soldiers,
to become brave athletes of Christ.
SO THAT WE ARE NOT AFRAID!
SO THAT WE DON’T BECOME COWARDLY!
SO THAT WE DON’T THINK WE ARE GOING TO DIE!
But even if we do have to die, it is so that we run, with joy, to that contest,
UNAFRAID – EVEN OF DEATH,
For we look to the ruler of life, to our LORD JESUS CHRIST!
Give God your intention, your desire,
and from Him, you will receive His strength.
You do not have strength; by nature, you are weak.
What, however, remains for you? your will !
I WANT TO, BUT I CAN’T!
That, we can say.
Some people say, ” I want means I can”,
But that doesn’t always hold true.
In the Church, we know that oftentimes we want to, but we cant…
What, however, happens to us? We don’t stop there.
I WANT ! I CAN’T ! SO WHAT DO I DO ?
I call up the Almighty God for help. I give over my will to God.
I say, “My God, I want to! I CAN’T , BUT I WANT TO !”
Since you want to, God will become present and
He will give you His strength.
You, yourself, give your will to God; give God your intention,
and you receive strength from Him;
you receive the strength from God !
you give over your will to God, you will see the presence of God!
YOU WILL SEE GOD PRESENT!
God appears at the point at which man overcomes his will.
And God will let you be, until the ultimate limit of your endurance!
THAT IS WHERE YOU WILL SEE GOD!
The martyrs literally witnessed this!
To God, they gave over their will and their endurance
until the last ounce of their strength.
There, at the ultimate limit; there, where there was nothing left,
as chaos follows immediately thereafter;
there, is where God intervened and changed everything!
If a man does not first vanquish, whatever is up to him to vanquish,
God does not intervene, to vanquish the rest.
You must first overcome whatever it is that depends on you
to overcome it, and there, you will see the presence of God!
You will see the power of God!
You will see that God is alive!
That God is present!
You will see how God transforms things and our nature
and our entire being, and that He is present in our lives.
So, let’s run, with an intrepid frame of mind!
BUT WITH A STRONG WILL !
WITH HOPE NOT IN OUR STRENGTH
BUT IN THE STRENGTH OF GOD!
I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST
WHO STRENGTHENS ME!
I CAN DO ANYTHING, NOT I, BUT CHRIST!
WITH THE POWER OF CHRIST!
I pray that the grace of Christ will strengthen us in our struggle.
